Market Beef Production Project

J. W. Burch

University of Missouri

Abstract

The market beef production project in Missouri deals with two groups:

  1. Those who buy and feed their cattle.
  2. Those who raise their feeder calves.

The work with those who buy their feeders is divided into four general heads. First, winter meetings; second, cattle feeding demonstrations or records; third, cattle feeders' tours; fourth, baby beef club work.

The county-wide, all-day winter meetings are usually a combination of hog and beef cattle meetings. The past year's feeding demonstrations are reviewed by some of the outstanding cooperators. Recent experimental work, the current outlook, and feeding recommendations for the various classes of cattle for the coming year are given by the animal husbandry specialist. Problems such as the amount of protein, that can be used with fifteen and twenty cent corn, and how much processing of feeds can be done under present low prices are typical of current situations that come up from year to year.
