Horse Association of America
Abstract
When your chairman, Prof. A. B. Caine, extended an invitation to address this group today, it occurred to me that I might render practical service to you by giving a resume of extension work in the various states. Some 14 different activities are in progress. Upon examination they are found to be assignable to three main groups.
MORE EFFICIENT USE OF HORSE POWER
Activities calculated to bring about an increase in efficiency in the use of horses and mules, and include, principally, the multi-hitch activities, such as demonstrations of multi-hitch methods by the extension specialists, county agents, vocational teachers, and by farmers themselves. Plowing contests limited to teams hitched and driven with the multi-hitch methods have also been held in several states, and have been a valuable stimulus to the general use of these more efficient methods. Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and North Dakota have all carried out much work in this group of activities in 1932.
