The Honor Guest: Dean W. L. Carlyle

Abstract

The 1931 honor guest of the American Society of Animal Production was W. L. Carlyle of Calgary, Canada, whom everyone in the field of animal husbandry knows as Dean Carlyle—one of America's leading contributors to the science and art of livestock production. His connection with college work may be briefly summarized as follows:

Graduated from Ontario Agricultural College, 1892.

Instructor Ontario Agricultural College, 1892–93.

Extension lecturer—University of Minnesota, 1893–96.

Professor of Animal Husbandry—University of Wisconsin, 1896–1903.

Professor of Agriculture—Colorado Agricultural College, 1903–05.

Dean of Agriculture—Colorado Agricultural College, 1905–09.

Dean of Agriculture and Director of Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Idaho—1909–15.

Dean of Agriculture and Director of Agricultural Experiment Station, Oklahoma A. & M. College, 1915–18.

In 1918 Dean Carlyle returned to Canada to supervise extensive livestock production projects for Mr. George Lane. Later, he was selected to manage the ranches which the Prince of Wales was developing in Canada. These he still manages.
