Abstract
The present price relationship existing between wheat and other grains has caused many feeders to consider using wheat in their cattle feeding operations. Many inquiries from Missouri feeders concerning this problem prompted the work here reported.
Thirty-two grade Hereford yearling steers purchased on the Kansas City market August 5 were divided into four lots and fed for 100 days beginning August 12. The rations and the principal results are shown in the accompanying table.
The steers getting ground wheat and whole wheat tended to get on full feed more slowly than the steers getting corn. After being on full feed a short time the steers getting ground wheat went "off feed." They were brought back to full feed slowly but never consumed over 11 pounds of grain daily. Considerable difficulty was experienced in keeping them on feed during the entire trial.
