Report of the Committee on Methods of Investigation

Abstract

The Committee on Methods of Investigation recommends the following additions to previous reports of the committee as have been published from time to time in the proceedings:

  1. When the individual gains of animals are not reported the standard deviation of gains of each experimental lot should be given.
  2. To search for any possible reason accounting for aberrant results, such as may be caused by the animals eating materials not strictly experimental but which may affect the results.
  3. To give as definite descriptions of feeds as possible, securing chemical analyses, and using federal grades where such have been established.
  4. In experiments testing the value of grinding, chopping, or rolling feed it is important that the exact degree of fineness be reported. It is urged that for this purpose we use the modulus determination of ground feed as recommended by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, and which has been adopted for use in concrete construction work.
