Professor Boss as a Co-Worker

W. C. Coffey

University of Minnesota

Abstract

This modest man whom we are here to honor has achieving power; he commands respect; he contributes to whatever cause he espouses; he enriches and inspires the lives of those with whom he comes in contact. It is a privilege to assist in honoring him and I shall attempt to point out certain of his qualities which, I believe, in considerable part, account for the wide recognition he enjoys as an educator and research worker. I shall do so, not primarily for his benefit but chiefly for the sake of the young men here who are thinking of a life career in agricultural education and research.

Professor Boss realizes that genius is about 99 per cent perspiration, and 1 per cent inspiration. He never balks at drudgery. When tangled, complex details stand in the way he clears them out so that he has an open path to the real objective to be attained.
