The Value of Personal Contact Between Instructor and Student

H. H. Kildee

Iowa State College

Abstract

I am delighted that the president of our association and his program committee have seen fit to devote this time to the consideration of the teaching of animal husbandry. The education of those who are soon to be the leaders in thought and action is one of the most important considerations which has ever come before this association. I am fully appreciative of the valuable, constructive work which has been and is being done in developing more efficient and economical production of animals and animal products of superior quality. The papers and talks at our annual meetings have been most valuable to the industry and to those of us engaged in teaching and research work. However, the successful teacher must have something more than knowledge of subject-matter. Therefore, it is important that we take time out from our consideration of the physical development of pigs, calves, colts, lambs, and chickens and consider the mental, spiritual, and social development of boys.
