Report of Committee on Cooperative Research

Abstract

The committee met June 24 and 25, 1927, at the Palmer House, Chicago. Preliminary to the meeting the chairman sent out a request to the cooperating stations for a report of the progress of the work during the past year. Also reports were called for from the chairmen of the various subcommittees.

Following is a brief abstract of the reports of the various subcommittees:

Standardization of Methods of Feeding

H. J. Gramlich, Chairman

  1. In reporting age of animals at beginning of the experiment, state age in months.
  2. Use a system of marking of animals that makes for certain tracing of the identity with minimum of extra handling.
  3. Three day weighing recommended for all Purnell projects.
  4. Slaughter at least three animals as a check at the opening of a trial. Send ribs of at least one animal to Washington for detailed study.
  5. Effort to determine cause of dark cutting cattle. Preserve identity of and keep individual history so that when a dark cutting carcass is obtained the history of the animal may be known.
