Report of the Committee on Show Yard Practices

Abstract

This committee came into existence as a result of a reference, at a meeting of this organization, to certain practices in preparing cattle for the showring that the speaker considered unethical.

In considering this matter horses, swine and sheep must also be included, and upon reflection and observation the committee finds that at least 50 different practices are used to improve the appearance of show animals. It also finds a wide variation in opinion among college men, as well as breeders, regarding the ethics of these practices considered separately and individually or collectively. It also finds that breed politics play an important part in the attitude assumed by certain groups toward these practices.

Viewing the situation from all angles the committee does not feel that it is ready to make any definite recommendations at this time.

Committee:

C. W. McCAMPBELL, Chairman,

J. W. WUICHET,

SLEETER BULL,

A. T. EDINGER,

M. D. HELSER.
