Sex as a Factor in Beef Production

H. J. Gramlich

Abstract

Summarizing the work which we have done to date in comparing open heifer calves with steer calves, it would seem that we would be safe in making the statement that heifer calves will not gain as rapidly nor will they gain as efficiently as steer calves, although they show their flesh at an earlier date and will yield very favorably indeed when salughtered. The problem of price discrimination and the justification of the same is one which must be worked upon further.
