The President's Address

Abstract

The purpose of the American Society of Animal Production as set down in its constitution is general, providing latitude for future development. The field is a broad and important one, including a wide variety of activities, and requiring broad training in those who work most effectively in it. The effectiveness of an individual or an organization depends upon the viewpoint from which the field for work is seen, as well as breadth of vision, training brought to the tasks in hand, and honesty and seriousness of purpose. It is, therefore, highly desirable, if the work of this group or of the individuals in it is to be most effective, that such workers realize their status, their various interlocking relations, and utilize a sane and broad viewpoint in approaching and studying their problems, and in giving general application to results secured.

Most of the members of this organization form a part of at least two great projects, each of fundamental importance in the welfare of the world, namely: the great basic industry, agriculture, especially livestock production, and secondly our great system of public education.
