Abstract
Reasons for Use of Fowler's Solution
The fact that Fowler's solution is widely used in fitting animals for fairs and shows has led us to investigate the effect of its use upon animals to which it is fed and upon the offspring of such animals.
The reason for its use in fitting animals is its apparent effect upon the hair, causing a gloss, and its aid in putting on fat. However, the fat of animals so fed is said to be softer than that of animals which have not received the solution. Since the principal ingredient of Fowler's solution is arsenic in the form of potassium arsenite, the question naturally arises concerning the possible injurious effects following its use.
Plan of the Investigation
The investigation as now planned will cover the following points:
1 Paper No. 223 from Division of Animal Breeding, Department of Animal Husbandry, University of Illinois.
