Abstract
The seven steers used in the experiment reported in this paper were all high grade Hereford calves of tlie spring of 1907. They were all from the same sire, of almost exactly the same age and were selected in the fall of 1907 as being a very uniform bunch of calves. They were gradually put on full feed with such variations as necessary to get them all to a unform condition.
On Feb. 25, 1908, this condition of uniformity was judged to be reached and No. 594 was slaughtered and analyzed as a check animal. In selecting this particular animal as the check animal, we were guided by the desire that the remaining animals should all be at least as fat as the check animal. At the time of the slaughter of No. 594 the remaining six steers were divided into three groups of two each. Nos. 597 and 595 were to be held at body maintenance weight.
