Suggestions* Regarding Research Work in Animal Nutrition

C. F. Langworthy

Abstract

Amount of protein required by farm animals.—The question of the amount of Protein required by farm animals under different conditions is of great importance from an economic as well as from a theoretical standpoint. If the amount can be reduced for long periods of time without lowering vitality, health of offspring, or causing other unfavorable conditions, it would effect a great saving particularly with animals fed for long periods as milch cows, breeding stock, and draft animals. The testimony of feeding experiments which have hitherto been reported on this whole question is conflicting when carefully examined, and it is obvious that many factors which shonld be taken into account were of necessity overlooked as their importance at the time was not understood as it is at the present.

Ash constituents in relation to protein.—It seems that in such investigations as indicated above we can not consider the question of protein by itself.
