Heritability of Multiple Birth in Sheep

Jan Rendel

The Royal Agricultural College1

Abstract

The heritability and repeatability of multiple birth in the four main sheep breeds of Sweden, Cheviot, Shropshire, Oxforddown and Swedish Landrace, have been estimated according to two different methods devised for "all or none traits." The material comprised 30,989 births. The two methods gave similar results. The average heritability and repeatability were 0.113 and 0.094 respectively.
