Abstract
This paper presents a study of comparative weight gains of range Hereford cattle fed individually and in pairs or groups. On the basis of these data, and under the conditions of these trials, it appears reasonable to conclude that when fed a higher quality hay, group or pair-fed animals will gain more than individually fed animals. When fed a low quality hay there is no difference in gain between individually and group or pair-fed animals. At least part of the difference may be due to a greater restlessness, lower feed consumption and greater feed waste noted in the individually fed animals. It is noted that these results may not necessarily be obtained under other conditions.
