University of California2

Abstract

The addition of 0.2 percent sodium sulfate to a basal ration made up of approximately 87 percent natural feeds with urea furnishing 40 percent of the total nitrogen was without effect on gains in body weight, efficiency of feed utilization, nitrogen retention, serum sulfate levels or wool growth. The basal ration contained 0.23 percent total sulfur and 0.15 percent inorganic sulfur and had a nitrogen to sulfur ratio of 9.3 to 1.

Only a trace of inorganic sulfate could be detected in the rumen contents at 3 to 5 hours after feeding.
