Abstract
Carotene stability was greater in feeds containing 10 percent alfalfa than in undiluted alfalfa. The individual ingredients of the feeds varied in their ability to stabilize carotene when mixed with alfalfa and cerelose. Ground yellow corn and wheat bran possessed the greatest stabilizing activity. Dried brewers yeast, solvent-extracted cottonseed meal and ground oats had some activity. Dried skim milk and solvent-extracted soybean meal were ineffective. The addition of various minerals, including copper, cobalt, iron, and manganese, did not increase carotene destruction.
