A Respiration Apparatus for C14 Studies with Cows1

Max Kleiber and Melvin Edick

University of California2

Abstract

An apparatus is described which allows the simultaneous measurements of the metabolic rate and the radio activity in the expired CO2 of cows injected with C14 labeled compounds over a period of several hours. The operation of the apparatus and the calculation of the results, as rate of CO2 production and specific radio activity of the expired CO2 are illustrated by a trial with injection of carbonate labeled with radio active carbon.
