The Effect of Soft and Hard Coal on the Growth Rate of Pigs1

R. H. Grummer, J. H. Meyer and G. Bohstedt

University of Wisconsin2

Abstract

Soft and hard coal were offered to two lots of pigs fed a well-balanced ration. The hogs ate appreciable amounts of both kinds of coal. The coal did not stimulate growth or have a noticeable mineral-sparing action, but increased the cost of gains.
