Twinning in Horses1

Abstract

Data are presented on 403 parturitions from 102 Belgian and Percheron mares

Thirteen pairs of twins were recorded but in only two pairs did both members survive. These findings indicate that two developing embryos are too much of a burden for the uterus of the mare in most cases.
